Estimating Current Consumption

For a given power wiring diagram, you can execute a built-in project synthesis, which calculates currents consumed by all devices (for example: consuming ECUs and electrical devices) and actual currents flowing through other devices (battery, ground, fuse, and relay).

Before you begin: Create a topology defined for power distribution.

  1. Select the topology.
  2. From the EE Tools section of the action bar, click Current Consumption Synthesis to compute the synthesis.

A graphic view appears, it shows the following information as tables:

    • Each current (for example, Operating_Current, Peaking_Current, Standby_Current)
    • Each current source (that is Out port of a battery or Out port of a consuming hardware component with Is current source = true)
    • Current intensity in every hardware component

For each hardware component, the report shows:

    • Nominal current value: fuse rating in the case of fuses, relay, shunt, or nominal current consumption value of consuming hardware components
    • Actual current value on that component calculated based on the diagram
