Linking Electrical Devices

You can link electrical devices already placed in the session but not yet linked to external system specifications.

Link Electrical Devices

You can link the electrical devices.

  1. From the Import / Export section of the action bar, click Manage Links .
    The list of external devices appears in the External Device List dialog box.
  2. Select the external device you want to link to a device already placed in the session.

    As no link exists, the Place and Link buttons become available.

  3. Click Link to add links to electrical devices already placed in session but with no link to external data.
    The 3D Device List appears.

    This list contains the devices present in session that can be linked: all are electrical devices with the same part number as the external device selected in the device list.

    If no 3D devices have the same part number as the external device, the 3D Device List is empty. You can, however, select a device with a different part number.

    You can select the 3D device in the:

    • Dialog box: the 3D view is reframed on the selected device
    • 3D area
    • tree.

  4. Select the device in the 3D Device List and click OK.
    The External Device List is updated:

    If the equipment is in an assembly, all assembly components must be placed individually. Until this is so, the equipment is considered partially linked.

Link an External Device to a 3D Device with a different Part Number

You can link an electrical device to a 3D device with a different part number.

  1. Select a device with a different part number in the 3D area.
  2. Confirm your selection.

    A message similar to the one below appears: 

    The selected physical device has a part number 
not equal to the part number of the device to be linked.
Expected PN: Connector_F
Selected device PN: Connector_F5

    The External Device List is updated and the external device is identified as Changed in the Linked column.

    Note: Changed in the Linked column identifies:
    • Devices that do not have the same part number
    • External devices whose part number has been changed.
