Finding Standalone Symbol

You can find standolone symbols which are not linked to any component.


Before you begin: Open a diagram view containing one or several symbols that have been inserted from a catalog. For more information, see Inserting Standalone Symbol in a Catalog.
  1. Press CTRL + F.
    The Find dialog box appears.
  2. In the General tab:
    1. Enter the name of the symbol in the Name box.

      Notes:
      • The symbol is named after its symbol reference plus a numerical value. For example, a symbol created from a symbol reference named Symbol Reference.1 is named CATSchSymbolInstance. If the symbol reference is named MySymbol, the symbol will be named MySymbol.1.
      • You can see and edit the name of the symbol by right-clicking the symbol and selecting Properties > Schematic Symbol.

    2. In the App Type box, enter Schematic Design.
    3. In the Type box, enter Schematic Symbol Instance.
    4. In the Look list, select Visible on screen.
    5. Optional: In the Graphics: General properties, you can specify some of the symbol's graphic properties.

    Note: Symbols linked to a component can be found only by entering the name of the component or by specifying a graphic property. A search based on the symbol name or the graphic properties will not succeed.

  3. To save queries to be reused and create composed queries, click Add to favorites... .
  4. Click one of the following buttons to find the symbol:
    • Click Find to display the symbol name and path in the dialog box. The symbol is also highlighted in the diagram view.
    • Click Find and Select to highlight the symbol in the diagram view and close the Find dialog box.
