About Engineering Change

When a change is required for a part within a company's product line, a user can submit a Change Request (CR) to describe the change. CRs identify problems or required changes relating to existing business objects. The user who submits the change, called the 'Originator', can attach sketches, parts, or drawings to describe the work that is required to implement the change.

Change Workflow

The workflow starts when a user creates a CR. Once a user adds a proposed change to the CR, a change action (CA) is auto-generated. Another user, the Evaluator, reviews the CR and all supporting documentation to determine their impact. The evaluator then decides whether to approve or reject the request.

If the Evaluator approves the request, a CO is auto-generated and connected to the CR. The CA is carried forward from the CR connecting its proposed changes. The CO defines how the change will be implemented and controls the release of the parts to which it is connected. The CO also specifies which Design Engineers and draftsmen will work on the objects attached. A CO can have only one associated CR and a CR can have only one associated CO.

Once the Design Engineers perform the required CAD and bill of materials work, the Responsible Manufacturing Engineer reviews the CA and can update attributes.

When promoted to the Completed state, a CR or a CO is assigned to a special user called "Corporate" and no further changes to the CR or CO can be made.

About Change Responsibility

The responsible change organization specifies a group of people who have responsibilities for a group of products.

Your responsible organization is the one listed in your user profile and is the default responsibility organization that is used whenever you create a CR (however, the Create Change Request form allows you to select a different one).

The default organization type for change responsibility is a business unit, but it can be any type derived from an organization, company, business unit, or department. The advantage to defining a responsible change organization as a business unit is that it provides the flexibility to model both a company and organization structure as a common function. Whether a company is company-organization focused or product-organization focused, the mechanism for responsibility assignment (including change responsibility) will be common.

On premises only: Only a user with Administrator privileges can create and edit the change organization.
