Creating a CAD Model

You can create CAD models or their subtypes and attached them to a part.

Required Access Roles:

  • Baseline: Author, Leader
  • App-specific: Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or Senior Manufacturing Engineer.

CAD Model subtypes may contain additional attributes not described here.

  1. Do one of:
    • Click > Engineering > Specifications > Create CAD Model.
    • From a part's Specifications page, click Create New from the page Actions menu or toolbar. See Specifications.

    Only users with create access for specifications will see these links.

  2. Enter details about the CAD model, including:

    Attribute Description
    Type (required) If CAD model is not the type shown, click and select CAD model.
    Name and AutoName Series (required) Type a name in the text field or check the Autoname and click the arrow in Autoname Series to select a series.
    Title The title of the CAD model.
    Collaborative Policy (required) If you want to use a policy other than the one shown, click the arrow to select a different policy from the list. This is displayed only if more than one policy is available to the context user.
    Related Part If you are creating a CAD model within a part context, this field contains the part name and is read-only. Otherwise, click to select the part to connect to the CAD model. Only parts that are in the In Work state are available. See Predefined Queries for details.
    Description Type details that describe the CAD model.
    Model Type Type details about the model type.

  3. Click Done. A new CAD model object is added to the database with the specified attributes.

The properties page opens, showing basic details about the CAD model. All fields are read-only. You can upload/check files into the new object from the Actions menu.. For details, see CAD Drawing Properties.
