Editing Part Properties

There are some properties that you can edit after you create it. For example, you can update the description, add a work under change object, or add the estimated cost of the part.

Note: If the part is under change-required is enabled, you must attach a work under change action to save changes to part properties.

These users can edit part properties:

  • Required Access Roles:

    • App-specific: Design Engineer or Senior Design Engineer.
    • Baseline: Author or Leader.
  • Users with the Leader role can edit properties of a part that is in the Frozen state if the user is either the part owner, assigned to or has access to the collaborative space in which the part resides.
  • Users with the Owner role can edit properties of a part that is in the Frozen or Released state if the user is assigned to the same collaborative space in which the part resides.
  • Users with the Author role can edit properties of a manufacturer equivalent part (MEP) that is in the In Work state if the user is either the part owner, assigned to or has access to the collaborative space in which the part resides.

Before you begin: You cannot edit part properties if the part is beyond the In Work state.
  1. Search for and open a part. For details about using the Search page, see Predefined Queries.
  2. Access a part's Properties page. For details, see Part Properties.
  3. In the toolbar, click Edit Details, .

This page shows all the information about the part. This page is basically the same as the Properties page, except that some fields are editable rather than read-only.

  4. Make modifications, as required. You can change some or all of the following, depending on what type of part it is and which other apps are installed.

    Field Description

    Design Controlled

True. The control of the part is with ENOVIA Product Finder or design apps.

False. The control of the part is with Engineering BOM Management.

Note: When a part has no related physical reference, this field is empty.
Change Required Indicates whether the part is under change management. Change management is required for Production phase parts but is optional for parts in Development phase. For duplicate parts, this option is available only if the part on which the clone is based is in the Development release phase.
Phase Indicates whether the part is in Development or in Production. This field cannot be edited.
Collaborative Policy The policy for the part (cannot be edited).
Part Family Click to select the name of the part family to which the part is to belong.
Description Type details about the part.
Owner By default, the responsible person is set as the person who is creating the part. To assign responsibility to a different person, click . See Predefined Queries for details.

For example, within the context of a specific project, you could have one collaborative space for Marketing and another for Engineering.
Classification Path Shown when IP Classification is installed, the complete taxonomy path, starting from the library, of the classified item. An example is:

GLIB >GC where GLIB is the library and GC is the classification of the item.

Work Under Change The assigned work under change action (CA) for the part. Select a work under CA as required. The work under CA is required if change-required is enabled; otherwise, the work under CA is optional. If the part is not change-required, it becomes change-required when you select a work under CA or group. If a work under CA has already been selected and is in the In Work state, this field is disabled for editing. This field is not visible in View mode.
Note: If the Change Required field displays the name of a CA group, the CA that you select for a Work Under change must belong to that group.
