Navigating a 3D Scene

You can start a dedicated scenario to navigate a 3D scene using a first-person view. This provides an immersive experience when navigating models of large proportions such as shops, buildings, parks, or cities.

Note: The navigation speed is computed automatically according to the size of the scene. For example, you navigate faster in a city than in a building.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • You cannot change ambiences while navigating. To modify the current ambience, exit the command first, and then change the ambience.
  • Pre-highlighting is not available during Walk and Fly navigation.

Navigate a 3D Scene on Non-Touch Devices with the Mouse

On non-touch devices, you can use the mouse to navigate the scene.

Context:

When you start the scenario, you are by default in Fly mode.

  1. Click the appropriate navigation command on the context toolbar to switch between the Walk and Fly modes, and to adjust some parameters.
  2. Proceed as explained below to navigate the scene.

    Task Action Available In
    Turn head Middle-click + drag in the direction you want to go. Both Walk and Fly modes
    Move forward and look in another direction Left-click + drag in the direction where you want to look. Both Walk and Fly Modes
    Move backward and look in another direction Right-click + drag in the direction where you want to look. Both Walk and Fly Modes
    Teleport Both Walk and Fly modes.
    • In Fly mode, the camera is teleported in front of the selected geometry at the location you clicked.
    • In Walk mode, the camera is teleported in front of the selected geometry, at the vertical of the click location. The height is not changed to avoid the camera being on the ground when the user clicks further in front of her/him.

  3. Optional: When the model ends up outside of the screen area, or when it becomes too small, it may disappear from your sight. In such cases, click the indicator that shows in which direction it is located.
    This adjusts the rotation and/or orientation of the camera so you can see the model. The camera's position is not modified.
  4. Click Fly/Walk Navigation or Exit Fly/Walk Navigation in the context toolbar to exit the command.

Navigate a 3D Scene on Touch Devices

On touch devices, joysticks are available to navigate the scene.

Context:

When you start the scenario, you are by default in Fly mode.

  1. Tap the appropriate navigation command on the context toolbar to switch between the Walk and Fly modes, and to adjust some parameters.
  2. Proceed as explained below to navigate the scene.

    Task Action Available In
    Move forward, backward, right, and left Move the left joystick up, down, left, and right. Both Walk and Fly modes
    Turn the head sideways Move the right joystick left and right Both Walk and Fly Modes
    Look up and down Move the right joystick up and down. Fly Mode only
    Teleport Both Walk and Fly modes.
    • In Fly mode, the camera is teleported in front of the selected geometry at the location you tapped.
    • In Walk mode, the camera is teleported in front of the selected geometry, at the vertical of the tap location. The height is not changed to avoid the camera being on the ground when the user moves the joystick in front of her/him.

  3. Optional: When the model ends up outside of the screen area, or when it becomes too small, it may disappear from your sight. In such cases, tap the indicator that shows in which direction it is located.
    This adjusts the rotation and/or orientation of the camera so you can see the model. The camera's position is not modified.
  4. Tap Fly/Walk Navigation or Exit Fly/Walk Navigation in the context toolbar to exit the command.

Navigate a 3D Scene with the Context Toolbar

You can use the context toolbar to navigate the scene.

  1. Use the appropriate command.

    Align the camera's viewpoint parallel to the ground.
    Note: In Walk mode, the viewpoint is always parallel to the ground.
    		Click or tap Bring Viewpoint Parallel to the Ground . Fly Mode only
    Adjust the speed Click or tap Adjust Navigation Speed Settings , and then use the slider to modify the speed. Both Walk and Fly modes
    Adjust the eye level Use the slider on the left of the context toolbar. Walk mode only

  2. Click or tap Exit Fly/Walk Navigation to exit the command.

Navigate a 3D Scene with the Keyboard

You can use the keyboard to navigate the scene.

  1. Proceed as explained below to navigate the scene.
