Exporting to CATIA File

You can export the objects open in your current session using the Export command.

Note: You cannot use this command with a shareable license.

  1. In a 3DEXPERIENCE session, open the objects to be exported.

    Notes:
    • If the current editor is the authoring work area, the CATIA V5 file format will be available to you in the Export dialog box. There is no need to select any PLM items prior to launching the command.
    • If the PLM entities to be exported are from the Search or Recent content result windows and if several items are selected, they are automatically opened in a Universal Finder window in order to support a multi-root scenario. If the you select just one component, it is opened in an authoring window and the Export command is launched with the CATIA V5 file format.
    • If the PLM entities to be exported are from both the Search or Recent content result windows and an authoring window, the selected items are automatically opened in a Universal finder window in order to support a multi-root scenario and the Export command is launched with the CATIA V5 file format.
    • You cannot export 3DEXPERIENCE content with CAD master. For more information, see Design with CATIA V5 User's Guide and Product Structure Editor User's Guide.

  2. Go to the Share menu in the Top Bar and click Export in the list.
The immersive Export dialog box appears in the top right-hand corner:

For more information, see the Exchange Management User's Guide: Export: Exporting Data.

  3. In the General Options section of the General tab, specify the targeted CATIA V5 version where the data is to be exported to in the V5 version box.
This converts objects into a file whose format can be read on the target release. If a selected object cannot be converted, you receive an explanatory warning. For example, for Convert Part as Specifications, a specific V6-V5 release support is available.
Important: You cannot export the following files to CATIA V5 with active mapping tables:
    • Standalone 3DShape
    • 3DPart representation without its corresponding reference
  4. Check the Use Mapping Tables box to convert a set of related documents in different steps. Mapping tables register what has already been processed in V6. The conversion therefore only applies to items that need to be processed.
    Important:
    • If the Use Mapping Tables box is checked and the Context is set to Coexistence, the Location field is disabled and the converted object will be created in the report directory.
    • If the Use Mapping Tables box is checked and the Context is non-Coexistence, the Location field is disabled and the converted object will be created in the context path defined at the time of the creation of the context.
    • If the Use Mapping Tables box is not checked, the Location field is enabled and the converted object will be created in the path defined in the Location text box.
  5. Specify the coexistence context in the Context Name combo box.
This allows you to manage transition between V5 and 3DEXPERIENCE platform lifecycles as well as data exchange between V5 and 3DEXPERIENCE databases. The exchange history is stored in mapping tables and each mapping data item is linked to a context.
  6. In the Advanced Options section of the General tab, specify, if required, in the Convert as combo box either Convert Part As Specifications or Convert Part As Result. You can also select whether to convert Publications on intermediate geometry or not and also define CATPart start-up.
  7. In the Report tab, specify if required the different report options: the directory where the report is to be located, the report name and a verbose report or not.
  8. Launch the export.
The Operation report dialog box opens.
  9. Optional: Click Open report to display the execution report of the DownwardCompatibility batch.
