Export of Generative Drawings to 3D XML

This topic provides information about export of generative drawings to 3D XML with Authoring. When exporting to 3D XML a drawing containing a generative view linked to a product, the whole product is exported along with the drawing as well as all its content (assembly constraints, materials, embedded filters and all representations).

This enables the drawing views to be updated after the 3D XML is re-imported and the product is modified.

Note: Generative drawings are not exported to 3D XML for review.

The table below lists the various cases of external content referenced by a drawing.

Drafting V6 contentV6 Content structureResulting 3D XML content
Generative view of a whole product reference

The drawing is exported along with the whole product.
Generative view of a product instance

The drawing is exported along with the whole product.
Generative view of a DMU slide

The drawing is exported along with the whole product.
Generative view of a Functional Tolerancing and Annotation or 2D Layout view

The drawing is exported along with the whole product.
Generative view of a product filter

The drawing is exported along with the whole product including embedded filters.
Generative view with a text with attribute link

Only the drawing is exported.
Generative view containing a 2D component instance referring to a 2D component reference

Only the drawing is exported.
Important:
  • The above-cited cases are combined when a drawing contains multiple views referencing various products. For example, in the case of a drawing containing views of 2 different products, the 3D XML content will contain the 2 products.
  • In the case of a drawing containing a text with attribute link or a 2D component instance, the external reference is not exported, but of course, the text with attribute link/2D component will be displayed in the 3D XML. If you need to export the external feature attribute or the catalog or drawing containing the 2D component reference, you can do so explicitly during the export process.
