Running FBDI Interactively

You can run FBDI interactively to import CATIA documents.

  1. In the top bar, select > Import > CATIA File....
The Select File dialog box appears.
  2. Select the product to import in 3DEXPERIENCE and click Open.
The Select the files to Import dialog box appears listing the files to be imported.
  3. In the Import Scenario area, you can select several options at the same time:
    Options Description
    Assembly Defines the CATProducts migration.
    • Structure Only import: only the structure of the product is imported. Applicative data is lost.
    • Full import: the product assembly and the applicative data are imported.
Use Mapping Tables Reuse the imported documents. On clearing the Use Mapping Table check box:
    • the information regarding document import is not stored
    • you cannot reuse or update the imported documents in the next import.
Isolate links on missing document Ignore broken, or invalid links present in your data set. It is recommended to activate this option.
Keep instances on missing document This is the extension of Isolation option. Selecting this option will keep the instance in V6 while updating the missing documents in the CATProduct.

Even though Keep instance on missing document option avoids to delete the V6 instant, It won't be able to solve any other links to a missing documents during the migration. For example, It is not possible to keeps constraint link between the missing part and other parts after import with keep instance on missing document.

In the Context name list, COEXISTENCE is selected by default. The context name is associated to every component transferred by a Mapping Table manager.

  4. In the Similar documents options area, you can select several options at the same time:
    Options Description
Update Update the modifications done to document (files). To use FBDI in Update mode, the user should have the rights to overwrite content and the object's maturity should not prevent overwrite of content. The links pointing a technological representation are broken after migration with the Update mode as the internal identifiers of content and the containers are not kept. To update a component, it has to be loaded. For a successful FBDI replace operation, the component should be available in 3DEXPERIENCE and the user should have rights to open it.
No re-import Does not import modifications done to documents.
Create revision Create a new revision or minor revision of the components.
    Propagate new revisions

In case of new major revision, this option saves the creation of new revisions in the product structure of the dependency bundle and on

    the pointing components.

  5. Click OK to compute the list of documents to be imported.
The Files to Process dialog box is opened. To see Import Report, click Get Report.
  6. Click OK to close the Import Report dialog box.
The Files to Process dialog box lists the file to be processed for import.
Tip: Click Get Report to view the Import Report dialog box again.
  7. Click <<Back to modify the input files or click Cancel, to abort the import operation.
  8. Click Import Report to import the content to the 3DEXPERIENCE database.
    The imported content opens.
