Importing from IGES 2D

You can import data contained in a disk-based IGES 2D file to a drawing representation using several methods.

Before you begin: Check you are using the supported IGES 5.3 standard.
  1. In the IGES 2D section of the Preferences.
    1. Select the default Drafting standard file, or customized ones. See About Standards.
    2. Select other required options.

For more information about their behavior, read the IGES 2D Concepts.

  2. Import the IGES2D ( *.ig2) file as explained in Import.

Note: Whereas the path of an IGES file to import may contain non-ASCII characters, the name of the file itself must contain only ASCII characters.

    • A progress bar is displayed while the content is converted and saved. If the save operation fails, a failure message is displayed and the import is aborted. See About the Report File for more information.
    • A drawing representation is created. It contains the data imported, according to the options selected.
    • The import takes all IGES 2D options into account with the exception of the Drafting Standard. When inserting data in a 2D Layout, its standard is not changed.
      • When a view is inserted in the current sheet, the format of the current sheet is not modified.
      • When a new sheet is created, the best format is applied for this new sheet.
    • If a drawing representation is created, see About User Exit for more information about identification.
    • Entities are imported as follows:
Element typeElement number in IGES format
      circular pattern 100
      composite curve 102
      conic arc 104
      copious data 106

  3. Alternatively, in Drafting and 2D Layout for 3D Design select Insert From File from the Annotation section of the action bar.
The data are inserted in an existing drawing representation.
