About Services Projects

Services Management manages the business initiative, product development, and product management process to own and drive the creation and management of solutions, products, and services from idea to retirement. You can also use this app to anticipate, analyze, coordinate, plan, and manage product evolution due to new regulations, internal compliance, competitive, or market events.

Services Management allows all contributors in a project to complete the work content needed for the product Development Project, but also allow managers and product developers to build real-time dashboards to track product development process status and take any necessary corrective actions through a deliverables driven project management approach.

In addition to the functions described in this guide, all Project Management tools can be used to define projects, alerts, and manage the project lifecycle. For more information, see Project Management User's Guide: Working With Projects.

For more information about the types of services projects, see Types of Services Projects.

Services Management License Roles

The Services Product Manager and Services Product Developer licenses lets you create, modify, promote and demote services projects and their scheduled tasks. These licenses provide full access to all project functionality.

The Services Product Contributor license role allows project members to view project information and complete tasks, such as providing deliverables.

Services Project Process

This outline describes the typical process for any type of services project:

  1. A Services Product Manager or Services Product Developer user with the Author access role creates the services project based on a predefined services project template. The app creates the services project in the Preliminary state.

The app does not maintain a link between a project template and any projects created from the template. After creating a project, any changes made to the template are not propagated to the project.

  2. The Author modifies the services project to support the specific project, such as adding tasks and members.

For more information, see Project Management User's Guide: Working With Projects.

  3. When ready, the Author promotes the project template to the Ready state, and all task are also promoted to the Assign state and Services Product Contributor users are notified about their tasks.
  4. The Author user promotes the services project to the In Work state and Services Product Contributor users can work on their tasks.
  5. Project members with the Services Product Contributor license role and the Contributor access role complete tasks assigned to them and submit deliverables.
  6. When all tasks have been completed, the app is promoted to the In Review state, and all tasks and deliverables are reviewed by appropriate project members.
  7. When all of the tasks are approved, the app automatically promotes the project to the Complete state, and it can then be archived for future reference.

Services Projects and Services Products

When you create a Services Product, you can choose a governing project. That project is used to manage the development and release process for the Services Product. A single project can govern multiple products, but a product can only have one governing project.

Currency Preferences and Exchange Rates

Services Projects require you to set a currency conversion preference, and for an Administrator to configure currency exchange rates. The default currency conversion is "As Entered," and you must change it to a specific currency such as euros or dollars. For more information, see Web App Preferences. An Administrator must also define currency exchange rates, so that if one person selects dollars and another selects euros, they each see appropriate currency values. For more information, see Currency Exchange Rates.
