Design IP Classification File-based Design Import

File-based Design Import (FBDI) enables content migration from V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE.

This topic describes the particularities about importing catalogs.

To import catalog files from a file base design environment, see Using FBDI in standard mode (in Interactive or Batch mode) and Running the FBDI Batch in File based Design Import user guide.

Important: In interactive mode, you can only use Mapping Table Mode to import a catalog.

This page discusses:

V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE Data Import Table

The following table describes import correspondences between V5 file-based data and 3DEXPERIENCE content.

The statuses for import results are fully imported, partially imported, and not imported (-).

V5 Data Type 3DEXPERIENCE Content TypeImport Result
Document.catalog Catalog Fully Imported

CATIA Document Description Reference Item or Representation Item Fully Imported

Non-CATIA Document Description Non-CATIA Document Item Fully Imported

Part Family Component Family Fully Imported

Note: Particulars;
  • Within a resolved part family, resolved items, generic parts and design tables will be imported.
  • WARNING: If a generic part has the same name as its associated design table, the import fails due to PLM naming rules.
  • If you use a component stored in a V5 catalog, the overwrite capability does not work properly, and the versioning does not create a version but a copy with identifiers. If you then modify the family, the overwrite capability and the versioning will work because based on these identifiers.

External Chapter External Chapter Fully Imported

If a V5 catalog contains a link to another catalog, then the linked catalog imports, but without the link between the catalogs.

Considerations

You should take the following considerations into account:

Update Catalog

Update option is now supported for catalog:

  • Chapter create/delete
  • Keyword create/delete
  • Item create/delete
Performance Issues
  • You should import classified objects first, by packets of 200 to 300.
  • You should import catalogs last.
