Sheet Metal Design File-based Design Import

File-based Design Import (FBDI) enables content migration from V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE.

This topic specifies the import correspondences between V5 data types and 3DEXPERIENCE content types, and the import result. The statuses for import results are fully imported, partially imported, and not imported (-).

This page discusses:

V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE Data Import Table

The following table describes import correspondences between V5 file-based data and 3DEXPERIENCE content. The statuses for import results are fully imported, partially imported, and not imported (-).

V5 Data Type 3DEXPERIENCE Content Type Import Result
Sheet metal design features Sheet metal design features Partially imported
Sheet metal production features Sheet metal design features Partially imported

Considerations

You should take the following considerations into account:

As features created in V5 Sheet Metal Design and Sheet Metal Production apps are no longer supported on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you need to modify these features before opening them on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

You can choose between two import methods, an automatic or a manual method, depending on the options set in Installation and Administration: 3DEXPERIENCE platform: 3DEXPERIENCE platform - Administration: Native Apps Preferences Guide: General: File-based Design Import: Sheet Metal.

Manual Import

This section explains how to perform a controlled and manual import of deprecated features. The Launch FDBI Error option is selected in Me > Preferences.

  1. Copy the PartBody.
  2. In a new CATPart, select the Paste Special contextual command.
  3. In the dialog box that appears, select the As Result option.

Features are replaced by solid features and pasted in the new CATPart.

  4. Start the import.

Solid features are imported on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform as datum features.

Note: If the CATPart still contains V5 sheet metal design features, an error message appears and the import fails.

Tip: You can use the Recognize command to recompute the folded geometry, either in V5 before importing again or in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform once the import is successful.

Note: When a V5 sheet metal part is imported in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the sheet metal parameter feature is updated. However, the relation becomes desynchronized as the PLM component is modified, but the link remains synchronized.
