Content Supported by FBDI

This section explains what kind of CATIA and non-CATIA documents can be imported in 3DEXPERIENCE.

This page discusses:

Importing CATIA V5 Documents

You can import a R25 with the market name to be used : V5-6R2015.

The CATIA V5 files are identified by their name and an internal unique identifier. Therefore, the document's path is not taken into account by FBDI and you cannot re-import it. But, you can work on the already imported version of the document in 3DEXPERIENCE.

Note: You cannot import the CATIA documents using the Downward Compatibility batch in 3DEXPERIENCE. For more information about this batch, see Downward Compatibility.

Importing Non-V5 CATIA Documents

You can import the CATIA V4 models and CATIA Graphic Representation (CGR) files in 3DEXPERIENCE. These files are imported as 3D shape representations. You can identify these files by their path and names.

You can import CATIA V4 content in 3DEXPERIENCE by assigning specific values to the variable Is2DModel in the business logic (BL).

In CATIA V4, the model file can have only 2D content, only 3D content or both 2D as well as 3D content. The business logic opening enables you to decide whether the imported model contains only 2D or both 2D and 3D content. In the business logic, you can set the value of the variable Is2DModel as TRUE. After importing this model using FBDI, a drawing is created in 3DEXPERIENCE.

If you set a FALSE value for the Is2DModel variable, then the CATIA V4 model is imported as a 3D shape. In case no business logic is used, the model is imported as a 3D shape irrespective of the type of V4 content.

If a model file already imported as a 3D shape is re-imported by setting a TRUE value in the BL, the file is imported as a 3D shape only. The same behavior is applicable for a model imported as a drawing.

Importing Non-CATIA Documents

You can import non-CATIA documents using FBDI. Extensions of the imported files are case sensitive. You can identify the files by their path and names.

Using the FBDI interactive mode, the non-CATIA files cannot be selected explicitly. They can only be implicitly imported if they are pointed by a CATIA file you are importing (design tables for knowledge, images for materials). The non-CATIA file extensions do not appear in the interactive command.

In the FBDI batch mode, you can explicitly select non-CATIA files to import them in the 3DEXPERIENCE database. These files need not be pointed by CATIA files. These files are imported as a document in the Content Management modeler.

The Excel files (xls, xlsm and xlsx) are known as source files of the Knowledge Design tables. These files are imported using another modeller.

The following table lists the types of non-CATIA documents imported using FBDI:
