About Editability (Edition and Read-only Modes)

When opening a functional or logical structure in read-only mode, the number of authorized commands are limited to prevent unwanted modifications.

When working in edition mode, all commands are authorized. A Warning message appears when selecting an object that cannot be edited (for example because already locked by another user, or because the object has a read-only maturity state).

Warning: When switching to edition/read-only a functional or logical object, its main view representation is also switched. For example, when a function is switched to read-only, its main view is also switched to read-only, and you cannot move editable objects within this main view.

This page discusses:

Read-only Mode

The Functional & Logical Design commands cannot be used on read-only objects.

In read-only mode, it is not possible to:

  • Change the properties or delete a read-only reference or instance
  • Change the 2D layout of a read-only reference (change position of its children, change their size, etc.)
  • Add an instance under a read-only reference
  • Add, change the properties or delete a port on a read-only reference
  • Add, change the properties or delete a connection (functional connections and logical connections) under a read-only reference
  • Add, change the properties or delete an implement connection (functional and logical connections) if the implementing entity is read-only
  • Group/ungroup ports, expand/collapse ports group on a non-editable 2D graph.

With the read-only mode, the switch to edition does not automatically lock the switched objects, they have to be manually locked.

Editability Commands

You can switch an object from edition to read-only, or from read-only to edition mode (provided that this object is not locked by another user). For this, you can use the following commands:

Switch a Reference with its First Level Children

You can switch between edition or read-only a function or logical component, along with its first level children.

See Managing Components and Children Editability.

Switch to Edition

When working in read-only mode, you can modify only one object.

From the Compass, click Social and Collaborative Apps and select the Collaborative Lifecycle app. From the Collaboration section of the action bar, click Switch to edition .

For more about this command, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps: Managing Editability.

Switch to Read-only

When working in edition mode, you can lock an object.

From the Compass, click Social and Collaborative Apps and select the Collaborative Lifecycle app. From the Collaboration section of the action bar, click Switch to Read-only .

For more about this command, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps: Managing Editability.

Display Editability Errors

You can display a detailed view of the errors encountered during the last editability check.

From the Compass, click Social and Collaborative Apps and select the Collaborative Lifecycle app. From the Collaboration section of the action bar, click Display editability errors .

For more about this command, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps: Managing Editability.
