About VOF Sections

A volume of fluid (VOF) section defines the material properties and behaviors of a fluid region that contains two types of fluid. You must specify at least one VOF section to define a simulation that uses the volume of fluid method.

Defining VOF Section Properties

The VOF method is an Eulerian algorithm that predicts the location of the interface between the two fluids, also known as the "free-surface." The app solves an advection equation to track the location of the interface.

When you define a VOF section, you specify one fluid as the reference fluid and the other as the secondary material. The distinction matters when you define material properties. You must specify a surface tension coefficient for the reference fluid if surface tension effects are considered in your simulation. In addition, you must define the wall adhesion option to consider capillary flow effects.
