Creating an Input Body using Natural Shape

You can create an input body in Functional Plastic Parts using Natural Shape while working with any basic features.

You can create input body on the fly using this feature. This is similar to creating a sketch on the fly using Sketcher. The feature offers all the functions and behaviors of Natural Shape.

This task explains how to create an external body in Added Feature using Natural Shape.

  1. From the Create section of the action bar, click Added Feature .
    The Added Feature dialog box opens.
  2. Click External Shape from the Shape Definition: area.
  3. In absence of an already existing external shape click to navigate to Natural Shape. Create the required 3D shape in the live sketcher. Click to navigate back to Functional Plastic Parts work area.
    Added Body.x is introduced under Solid functional Set.x in the tree.

    A new node Body.x is introduced in the tree depicting the external body created in Natural Shape. This node is unavailable to access from Functional Plastic Parts. It is only active in Natural Shape.

    Note: The icon is replaced by .
  4. Click OK.
    The external body is created in Functional Plastic Parts.
  5. The only way to edit the live shape definition is to double-click the Added Body.x node in the tree. This opens the Added Feature dialog box. Right-click the External Shape box and select the listed contextual commands. You can also, click to edit .
  6. If you select an existing body as External Shape, not created through live shape, you can still enter Natural Shape. Here, you can create a live shape body or edit an already existing one.
    Notes:
    • Any body which is not a live shape body appears in a semi-transparent view when working in Natural Shape and is unavailable to edit.
    • You can only create new live shape bodies or modify the existing ones in Natural Shape.
    • All live shape bodies are hidden when you are in Functional Plastic Parts work area.
  7. You can create input bodies on the fly using Natural Shape in other basic features.

    The option is available in the following features as an external body shape definition:

    • Protected Feature
    • Shellable Feature
    • Internal Feature
    • External Feature
    • Core Feature.

    The option is also available in the following basic features as external tool body definition:

    • Push
    • Pull
    • Fitting.
