Creating a Snap-fit Attachment

You can create a specialized feature for the design of snap-fit attachments that are very common in plastic parts by using Snap Lock.

This task shows you how to create four cantilever hooks and traps on the two different bodies.

Note: Depending on your role, you may not have access to this functionality.

  1. From the Manufacture section of the action bar, click Snap-Lock .

The Snap Lock dialog box appears.

Important: There are two variations of the cantilever-style solutions:
    • Cantilever Hook

    • Cantilever Loop

  2. Select a solid functional set as a Trap body.
  3. Select four axis systems for Clip Positions Selection. You can select them from tree.

The locations of the Functional Snap Lock feature are required as input by selecting or creating with Create Axis System in RMB one or more axis systems whose Z axis is directed as the beam length. The point is in the median section, on the face that faces the locking mechanism at the wall attachment.

  4. Enter required values for:
    • Clip Positions Offset

    • Beam Length

    • Thickness at wall and Thickness at retention

    • Width at wall and Width at retention

    • Retention Undercut depth

    • Length Retention and Length Hook tip

    • Angle Retention and Angle Insertion

  5. Select Trap.
  6. Enter a value in Tolerances.
  7. Click Preview.

Direction arrow handles are displayed at the origin of each selected axis system to indicate the direction of the clip.

Tip: Clicking on arrow reverses the direction of the clip .
  8. Click OK.
