Creating a Cut

The Cut capability trims the shapes of one or more features of the active body by using styling surfaces or planes. The resulting body is shaped by these cutting elements. You can have two different type of cuts.

Create a Cut on a Shellable Prism

You can create a cut on a shellable prism.

Before you begin: Open a 3D shape representation.
  1. From the Transform section of the action bar, click Cut .
    The Cut.x dialog box appears.
  2. In the Features to cut box, select a shellable prism.


    Tip: If you select several features, the box displays the number of selected elements. To act on this selection, click to display a panel that allows you to:
    • View the selected elements
    • Remove any element
  3. In the Cutting element box, select required cutting elements. You can use surfaces and planes as cutting elements.
  4. Optional: Change the direction of arrows to indicate which portion of the material must be kept.


  5. Click to set the radius of fillets on the edges created by the cutting elements..
  6. Optional: from the Type list under Wall, select Use feature thickness to create wall along the cutting surface.
  7. Click Preview.


  8. Optional: In the Offset box, type a value or use the arrows to change the offset value from the selected cutting elements. Click Preview.


  9. Click OK.
    A cut feature is created. Cut.x is added to the tree under the Solid Functional Set.x node.



Create a Cut on a Pocket

You can reshape the pocket by creating a cut in it.

  1. From the Transform section of the action bar, click Cut
  2. Select the pocket as the feature you want to cut.
  3. Select the cutting elements from the work area.


  4. In the Wall tab, from theType list, select Enter thickness, and enter the required thickness value.
  5. Click OK.
    This cut operation splits the pocket while adding some thickness from the edge produced by the cutting surface.

  6. Double-click the cut feature.
  7. Click Split .
    All the options in the Wall area become unavailable.

    Cut.x is added to the tree under the Solid Functional Set.x node.
