The purpose of a Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is to identify potential
risks, classify these risks, and optionally take optimization actions to prevent them.
The FMEA is performed on a full system, which can be created with Dassault Systèmes' apps
(Functional & Logical Design, Process Planning ...).
Failure Modes & Effects Analysis provides the following key capabilities:
- Analyze a system, which is decomposed into subsystems in a hierarchical manner (from
subsystems down to the most basic logical components).
- For each logical component:
- Identify the functions of the component, define its potential failure modes, or analyze
existing ones (from other RAMS analysis), and assess the potential
effects of this failure mode on the system performance.
- Verify for potential causes and evaluate the chance of occurrence.
- Verify the current methods to define the prevention and detection
controls, and access their impact on occurrence and detection rankings.
- Associate optimization actions.
