Creating Spot Fastener References

You can use Add Content to create a spot fastener.

Spot fasteners are created at specific points. You can create different spot fastener references.

This task shows you how to:

Create a Spot Fastener Reference

You can create a spot fastener reference. This type of fastener is created on a point for the parts to be fastened.

  1. Select Add > Content.
The New Content dialog box is displayed.
  2. Expand the Fasteners node.
  3. Right-click the Spot Fastener Single type and select Set attributes at creation.
The Spot Fastener Single dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the Fastener Specific Attributes tab.
  5. Modify the values of the fastener reference, the classification, the shape definition and shape parameters associated to the selected shape.
  6. Click OK to create the spot fastener reference.

Create a Spot Assembly Reference

An assembly of components being used to create a spot fastener is a spot fastener assembly. This type of fastener uses a specific industrial component or component assembly to affix the parts to be fastened. You can create a spot assembly reference along with components, i.e. unitary elements (for example, a screw, a washer or a nut for a bolt). Assembly spots mainly address the aerospace industry.

  1. Select Add > Content.
The New Content dialog box is displayed.
  2. Expand the Fasteners node.
  3. Right-click the Spot Fastener Assembly type and select Set attributes at creation.
The Spot Fastener Assembly dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the Fastener Specific Attributes tab.
  5. Modify the values of the fastener reference, the classification parameters, the shape definition (3D Point, HemiSphere, Shaft, Shaft with Head, Shaft with Head & Foot), the K Offset value and the shape definition parameters associated to the selected shape.
  6. Select the list of components.
  7. Click OK to create the spot assembly reference.

Create a Primary-Secondary Spot Fastener Reference

A secondary fastener is used to affix components or parts which are already fastened by a primary fastener then that type of fastener is a spot fastener assembly with secondary. You can create a spot fastener reference by defining a primary and a secondary reference.

  1. Select Add > Content.
The New Content dialog box is displayed.
  2. Expand the Fasteners node.
  3. Right-click the Spot Assembly Fastener with Secondary type and select Set attributes at creation.
The Spot Assembly Fastener with Secondary dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the Fastener Specific Attributes tab.
  5. Modify the values of the primary fastener, the classification parameters, the shape definition (3D Point, HemiSphere, Shaft, Shaft with Head, Shaft with Head & Foot), the K Offset value and the shape definition parameters associated to the selected shape.
  6. Select the Fastener Reference for the secondary spot fastener.
  7. Select the fastener component of the primary reference to join to the secondary reference by right-clicking the Browse Primary Fastener Components box.
It displays the list of components of the primary fastener.
  8. Click OK to create the primary/secondary fastener reference.
