Creating a Locator Patch

You can create a locator patch, that is a template of fasteners that contains the geometry, by default a rectangle, and input parameters on the surface.

This task shows you how to:

Create the Reference of the Locator Patch

You first need to create the reference of the locator patch. You will then insert this reference in an engineering template.

  1. Select Add > Content.
  2. Expand the Fasteners node.
  3. Right-click the Locator Patch type and select Set attributes at creation.
  4. Select the Fastener Specific Attributes tab.
  5. Modify the following: the values of the fastener reference, the classification parameters, the shape definition (3D Point, HemiSphere, Shaft, Shaft with Head, Shaft with Head & Foot), the K Offset value and the shape definition parameters associated to the selected shape.
  6. Select the list of components.
  7. Click OK to create the locator patch.
  8. Save the locator patch.
The rectangle is displayed in the work area.

Insert the Reference in an Engineering Template

You can insert the reference of the locator patch in an engineering template.

  1. To create the engineering template, select Add > Content.
  2. Select Engineering Template in the dialog box.
  3. Click Add Reference.
  4. To select the reference you need, do any of the following:
    • Select From Session if the reference is already in your session, then select the reference of interest.
    • Or click the Search tab and use the search options available to search for the reference you need.
  5. In the Uncharged Components section, select the representation and click the up arrow to place it on the list of the Components to process.

Define the Inputs of the Engineering Template

Now you need to define the inputs of the reference.

  1. Double-click the representation.
It opens in theLoaded components tab of the dialog box.
  2. Click the Inputs tab.
  3. Select Add.
The Select Inputs dialog box appears.
  4. Select InputForEngineeringTemplate and click the arrow to place it in the Selected objects area.
  5. Click OK to confirm.

Define the Parameters of the Engineering Template

Now you need to define the parameters of the reference.

  1. Click Add.
The Select Parameters dialog box appears, displaying all the parameters of the representation.
  2. Multiselect both lengths named as Patch.xxx defined for the locator patch. By default, the values defined are 6mm and 4mm. These values are different if you defined them at step 5 in Create the Reference of the Locator Patch.
  3. Click the arrow to put the lengths in Selected objects.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Select Share > Save.
The engineering template is created and saved. You can then instantiate it.

The engineering template is created and saved. You will then be able to select it whenever you need to instantiate the locator patch references.
