Repositioning Fasteners Using Positioning Analysis

After modifying stacking parts or location points, you can use Positioning Analysis to reposition fasteners.

Important: Positioning Analysis is unavailable for fasteners that are not created on points.

Tip: FastenerPositioningAnalysis helps you to analyze the positions and thicknesses of fasteners. For more information, see Analyzing Fasteners Positions and Thicknesses Using a Batch File.

This task shows you how to:

Reposition Fasteners After Modifying Stacking Parts

  1. For the purpose of our scenario, the original stacking parts have been modified.

Initial Part: Fasteners Will Be Created on the Three Points, With Projection Mode on.

    Stacking Parts Have Been Modified

    Select the fasteners.

  2. In the Positioning Analysis dialog box, click Analyse selected fasteners .
The analysis results appear in the Results area of the dialog box. The three fasteners are listed in Unable to compute fastener position.

Fastener 1 and fastener 2 cannot be projected on the original surface that has been modified.
  3. To edit the fasteners, in the dialog box, right-click Fastener 1 and select Edit, and assign a new surface manually. Repeat the operation for the second fastener.
Tip: Click a row to highlight the corresponding fastener in the treeor the 3D area. Click anywhere in the 3D area to cancel the highlight.
Click a row to highlight the corresponding fastener in the treeor the 3D area. Click anywhere in the 3D area to cancel the highlight.
  4. Click Analyse selected fasteners.
In the Results area of the dialog box, two fasteners are now listed in Fastener position computation successful.

  5. Click OK to validate the new positioning.

Fastener 1 and Fastener 3 are repositioned successfully on the new surface.

Note: For fastener 2, no surface for projection can be found. You can delete it.

Reposition Flexible Fasteners After Modifying Point Location

  1. Initial Part Includes 8 Fasteners Instantiated on Points

    Six Points Have Been Modified

  2. From the Fastener section of the action bar, click Positioning Analysis .
  3. In the Analysis Mode area of the dialog box, select Manage position and thickness.
  4. Select Analyse selected fasteners .
  5. To access details about the fasteners, expand the lists in the Results area of the dialog box:
    • Three fasteners are listed in Fasteners in correct position. All the fasteners in this category are shown in a white preview. They do not need any repositioning.
    • Three fasteners are listed in Fastener position computation successful. All the fasteners in this category are shown in a green preview. This group represents the fasteners for which the point as well as the support surfaces are successfully found. You can reposition them.
    • Two fasteners are listed in Unable to compute fastener position. All the fasteners in this category are shown in a red preview. This group represents the fasteners for which the app cannot compute a correct position.
  6. Click OK.
The thickness of fasteners 4, 5 and 6 is different from the newly computed stacking thickness, but it is within range of the flexible fastener, so the corrective action is possible. These fasteners are repositioned successfully. Conversely, the newly computed thickness for fasteners 7 and 8 is out of range of the flexible fastener. A corrective action is impossible. Only the position of these fasteners is modified.
Thickness Not Replaced for Fasteners 7 and 8. Only the Position of These Fasteners Is Modified.
