Modifying Fasteners

You can modify all types of fasteners using the Modify Spot or Bead Fasteners contextual command.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Enable Smart Projection by proceeding as follows:
  1. Select Me > Preferences.
  2. Select 3D Modeling > Multi Discipline Engineering > Fastening > General.
  3. Select Use Smart Projection.

Modify the Stacking

  1. Right-click the fastener you want to modify, and select Modify Spot or Bead Fasteners.
    Note: You can also access Fastener Edition from the Fastener section of the action bar.
  2. Use the different commands to reorganize the stacking.

    • : deletes a stacking part.
    • : reorders the stacking part by moving the selected part up in the order.
    • : reorders the stacking part by moving the selected part down in the order.
    • : reverses the current stacking order.

    If the bundle is already available, the fastener is moved to the existing bundle. If no bundle is available, the fastener is moved to a new bundle.

Define a Bundle Location

You can define a location for a newly created bundle.

  1. From the Fastened part Groups frame in the Fastener Edition dialog box, click .

    A Bundle Location dialog box for defining bundle location and bundle search is displayed.

    Note: In case of multiple auto stacking group results, this dialog has to be launched for each stack group

  2. Do either of the following:
    1. To specify the bundle location, select either of the following options:
      Common father node The bundle is searched under the father common to the stacked parts. If the bundle is not found, a new bundle is created under the father common to the stacked parts.
      Active product The bundle is searched under the current active product. If the bundle is not found, a new bundle is created under the active product.
    2. To search for a bundle, select either of the following options:
      Search bundle in session The bundle is searched under the selected bundle location in session. If multiple bundles are found, you can select the bundle you need from the list.
      Search bundle in database The bundle is searched in the database. If multiple bundles are found, you can select the bundle you need.
  3. Click OK.
    The bundle location and the searched bundle are stored for respective stacking groups.

Locate the Instances

The selected fasteners you want to modify are listed in the Location frame of the dialog box.

  1. Right-click the fastener in the row, and select one of the following:

    • Create Point: available for spot fasteners
    • Select Point: available for spot fasteners

    Tips: To help you visualize the geometry, select Center Tree Locations or Reframe On Locations.
  2. To obtain a projection status for a given point, select the corresponding check box.

  3. To reverse the normal for a given location, select the corresponding check box.



Use Smart Projection

Click Smart Projection.
The best projection surfaces found by the app for the selected fasteners depend on the selected stacking parts. The selected points are projected on the pilot part.
