Analyzing the Distance Between Elements

You can provide a visual representation of the distance between any two geometric elements or two sets of elements to understand the characteristics of the shapes.

Before you begin: Open an existing 3D shape.
  1. In the Elements area, select the elements for the Source and the Target. The source elements are discretized and projected on the target elements.
  2. Click Inverts the analysis computation to invert the source and target elements.
  3. Adjust the analysis color scale:
    1. Click Full Color Range in the Display Options area.
    2. In the Distance dialog box, click Use Min Max.
    • The maximum and minimum values in the dialog box are specified according to the distances between the elements you have selected.
    • The analysis colors are updated to match the color scale in the dialog box.
  4. Move the pointer over a source element to analyze the distance at any point.
  5. To analyze the distance between two surfaces using texture mapping:
    1. Create two nonplanar surfaces.
    2. Select the lower surface as the source and the upper surface as the target element.
    3. Click Texture mapping mode in the Display Options area.
    4. Click Full Color Range in the Display Options area.
    5. In the Distance dialog box, click Use Min Max.
  6. Click OK to create the analysis.
