About Surfaces and Faces

This section provides information you may need to know when working with surfaces and faces.

This page discusses:

Surfaces

This section provides information about surfaces.

All surfaces have two parameters; u and v.

A surface has an order in the u-direction and an order in the v-direction.

The minimum order in either direction is 2. The maximum order in either direction is 16.

The simplest surface is a 4-Point-Patch of order 2 in the u-direction and order 2 in the v-direction.

A surface can consist of a single patch or of several patches.

From the Analysis section of the action bar,, click Geometric Information to open the Geometric Analysis dialog box which provides information about a surface.

This single patch surface has the following orders:

  • u: 8
  • v: 4

A surface can be trimmed by, for example, Break Surface . It can be untrimmed by Untrim Surface or Curve .

Faces

This section provides information about faces.

A trimmed surface is called a face.

A face contains the same information as the surface it was derived from. As a consequence, all commands designed to modify or operate on a surface can also be used to modify or operate on a face.
