Creating Symmetry Using Control Points

You can create symmetrical shapes by manipulating control points with respect to a reference plane.

The Symmetry command within the Control Points dialog box allows you to define the plane about which symmetry will be created. You can define this plane by:


Before you begin: Open an existing 3D shape.

  1. From the Edition section of the action bar, click Control Points .
    The Control Points dialog box appears.
  2. Select the surface.
  3. Select the desired control points.
  4. In the Symmetry area, right-click in the Symmetry box and select the required reference plane about which symmetry will be created:

    • Automatic: automatically creates a plane.
    • Insert Wireframe:
      • Create Plane
      • XY Plane
      • YZ Plane
      • ZX Plane

  5. In the Symmetry area, select Symmetry :
    • Click once to apply the symmetry to the current position of the selected control points.
    • Double click to apply the symmetry to the current position of the selected control points and to follow any future movement of the selected control points.
    • Click again to deselect.
  6. Click OK to validate the modifications and close the dialog box.
