About Tolerancing Advisor

The Tolerancing Advisor lets you create compliant annotations with the selected geometrical element or existing annotation.

This page discusses:

Annotations Compliant with the Tolerancing Advisor

The following annotations are compliant with the Tolerancing Advisor:

  • Semantic (Dimensions) and non semantic annotations (Text, Roughness, Flag note)
  • Datum
  • Datum target
  • Datum reference frame
  • Semantic and non semantic annotations can be created on constant sections of variable fillets
  • Related Geometric feature type:
    • A revolute circle can be seen as a plane with its revolute axis seen as its normal.
    • For a circular sweep, the X.circular sweep feature is proposed.
    • The selected linear border edge of non-parametric surface is treated as a plane when the surface bounded by it is planar.

This plane is oriented in a way that it passes through the selected edge and perpendicular to the bounded planar surface. When you select the two such parallel border edges, it is considered as two parallel planes are selected. For such features, you can create the distance linear dimension.

    • The selected circular border edge of non-parametric surface is treated as a cylinder when the bounded surface is planar.

This cylinder axis is perpendicular to the edge and passes through the center of the circular edge. For such features, you can create the diameter dimension.

    • For two surfaces with opposite material senses and constant distance between all couples of opposite points, the Between 2 geometrical features (thickness) is proposed.
    • The Reverse Orientation button in the Limit of Size Definition dialog box enables you to invert the orientation of a Related Dimension.
    • The options Symmetric Lower Limit and Single limit in the Limit of Size Definition dialog box may not be active nor modifiable according to the elements selected.
    • When the option Always try to create semantic tolerances and dimensions is active, it takes the above into account.
Important:

Remember that when the dimension supports are related to a parameter (sketch constraints, knowledge, etc) for which tolerances are still defined, they are taken into account for the dimension tolerances.

Propagation of the Selection in the Tolerancing Advisor

The selection can be propagated to the following geometrical elements.

  • The same sphere surface.
  • The same plane surface.
  • The same cylinder surface.
  • The same cone surface.
  • The same torus surface.
  • A pattern of parallel cylinders.
  • A pattern of spheres.
  • A circular edge.

Options in the Tolerancing Advisor allows you to propagate the selection.

  • Select all same diameter parallel cylinder: propagates the selection to the faces in the 3D Shape representation with the following conditions:
    • With the same cylindrical canonicity.
    • With the same diameter.
    • That are parallel with the first selected cylinder.
    • Whether the extremity edges of the selected cylindrical face are contained or not in a plane:
      • Extremity edges are not contained in a plane: only the first three conditions are taken into account.
      • One extremity edge is contained in a plane: only the faces with edges coplanar with the extremity edge plane are selected.
      • Extremity edges are contained in planes:
        • When the selected cylindrical face has been selected in 3D area: the plane nearest of the selection point is chosen and only faces with edges coplanar with this plane are selected.
        • When the selected cylindrical face has been selected in the tree (no selection point): two sets of faces with edges coplanar with these planes are defined: either the number of faces in the two sets are the same, and the set related to the first edge is selected, or the set with the highest number of faces is selected.
  • Select all same canonicity face: propagates the selection to the faces in the 3D part with the same canonicity.
  • Select all same diameter parallel sphere: propagates the selection to the faces in the 3D part with the same spherical canonicity and the same diameter.
  • Select all same apex angle cones: propagates the selection to the cones in the 3D part with the same apex angle.
  • Select all same small diameter, high diameter parallel Tori: propagates selection to the tori in the 3D part with the same diameter.
  • Select all same diameter, same pitch, parallel CG thread Cylinders: propagates the selection to the threads in the 3D part with the same diameter and pitch, and parallel axis with the selected constructed geometry thread.
  • Select all same User defined features: propagates the selection to the user defined features in the 3D part with the same definition.
  • Select all same diameter parallel circular edges: propagates the selection to the all parallel circular edges with same diameter.
  • Select all elongated, rectangular, or rectangular round pin/hole:: propagates the selection to all the faces of elongated, rectangular, or rectangular round pin or hole to which the selected face or edge belongs.
Note: For propagation in a specific direction, select two adjacent faces.
  • Select all the in between edges with tangent continuity: propagates the selection to all border edges in a tangent continuity of the selected edge including it.
