Specifying Failure Modes

You can specify the possible failure modes on an annotation and assign its criticality level to notify the possible failures while manufacturing.

Before you begin: Create or open a 3D shape with annotations.
  1. From the tree, right-click a tolerance or an annotation node and select Failure Modes .

You can select several annotations and tolerances.

  2. In the box under annotation node, enter the information of possible failure modes and assign the criticality levels for those failure modes.

You can assign below criticality levels:

    OptionDescription
    Least Important

By default, this criticality level is selected.

    Low

    Medium

    High

    Very High

You can add several failure modes with different criticality levels for a single annotation or dimension. To do so:

    • Click to add additional failure mode information.
    • From the list criticality level list, select the applicable criticality level.
    Notes:
    • You can predefine the failure modes using Data Setup.

These predefined failure modes will be listed in the failure mode box. You can expand the list and select predefined the failure mode.

    • You can specify the failure mode information for functional surfaces and mechanical junctions during their creation.
    • When you select several annotations, you can add failure mode information for all of them under the Common Failure Modes node. You can also add the failure modes for selected annotations individually under their respective nodes.
    • You can select several annotations to assign failure modes to them.
      • Under the Common Failure Modes node, specify the failure mode information which is common for all the selected annotations and dimensions.
      • Under respective annotation nodes, specify the failure mode information for individual annotation or dimension.

The failure mode information is assigned to the annotations and dimensions. You can hover over them in the 3D area to display the information with its criticality level in tooltips.
  3. Click to remove the specified possible failure mode.
