Configuration Rule Lifecycle

The Configuration Rule policy controls the lifecycle of variability rules for features and model versions.

The following types of rules follow this lifecycle:

  • Expression rules
  • Matrix rules

This page discusses:

In Work

A variability rule is created in the In Work state.

A Product Manager can create a variability rule only if the feature or model version is not in the equivalent of the Released or Obsolete states. In Variant Management orVariant Analysis and Reuse, if the feature or model version is in either the Released or Obsolete state, the Create link will not be available in the summary page of that type of variability rule.

Released

A Product Manager promotes the variability rule to the Released state so that it can be used to define allowable product configurations.

Obsolete

A Product Manager promotes the variability rule to the Obsolete state when it should no longer be used for product configuration.
