Product Configuration Lifecycle

A product configuration specifies the configuration's model version and revision, the available options, and quantities.

This page discusses:

In Work

A Product Manager, System Engineer, Sales Engineer, Design Engineer, or Leader can create product configurations. They are created in the In Work state.

Product configurations are visible to any users in the same project who are assigned the Reader role. When it is in the In Work state, the product configuration is only editable by the Owner who created it and by any other Product Manager, System Engineer, Design Engineer, Sales, or Leader in the same collaborative space and organization. Only the product configuration's Owner can add or remove options. The Marketing Validation and Design Validations statuses must be successful before the product configuration's owner can promote it to the Released state.

Released

In the Released state, the product configuration is visible to all users with access to the collaborative space.

In the Released state, the product configuration is considered "frozen" and the configuration definition cannot be changed. The product configuration is available for placing orders. BOM generation and Precise BOM persistence are allowed. If a company decides not to sell the product configuration, the Product Manager or Leader can promote the configuration to the Obsolete state. Any user can demote it to the In Work state.

Obsolete

In the Obsolete state, the product configuration is visible to all users with access to the collaborative space. In this state, it is considered "frozen" and cannot be modified, demoted, or deleted. A product configuration in the Obsolete state is not available for sale.
