GBOM Part Table: Active Parts Page Tab

The Active Parts page tab of the GBOM Part Table allows you to manage the parts and design conditions for a logical feature. The table shows basic information about the parts, including one column for each product configurations. The Effectivity column defines effectivity for GBOM parts and part families. During the BOM generation process, design variants are added to the part family of the logical feature.

To access this page for a logical feature:

  1. Open the logical feature.
  2. In the navigation pane, select GBOM.

To access this page from a model version:

  1. Open the model version.
  2. In the navigation pane, select Logical Structures.
  3. Select the required logical feature or part.
  4. From the Reports menu, select GBOM Part Table. The table opens, showing the Active Parts page tab.

Columns

Column Name Description
Actions Obsolete objects do not have any actions available.

Icon Description
(Make Inactive) Makes the item on that row inactive without refreshing the page; click OK to confirm. Moves the item to the Inactive Parts page tab.
(Remove) Disconnects the Part from the context item without refreshing the page; click OK to confirm.
(Replace Part)
  • If the context item is not in the Release state, searches for a part or model version to replace the context object. Select the needed part or model version and click Submit.
  • If the context item is in the Release state, opens the Replace Part window instead to follow the Engineering Change Management process. See Replacing GBOM Items.

In both cases, the table is updated with the replaced part or model version.

(Replace Part Family)
  • If the context item is not in the Release state, searches for a part family to replace the context object. Select the needed part family and click Submit.
  • If the context item is in the Release state, opens the Replace Part Family dialog instead to follow the Engineering Change Management process. See Replacing GBOM Items.

In both cases, the table is updated with the replaced part family.

Name Name of the part or part family. Click to open that item.
Revision The revision number or code.
Type The type or subtype.
State The current state of the object in its lifecycle.
Part Type Indicates if this is a standard or a custom part.
If the icon shows in a row, the BOM attributes are overwritten for this row. If the icon does not show, the inherited BOM attributes from the logical feature are used.
F/N The find number is an ID that is used on drawings as bubble call-outs. Find numbers are usually integer values: 1,2,3,...
Qty The quantity of the item included in the model version or logical feature.
Note: Quantity is a mandatory column and must not be removed when creating a custom table view.
Usage Standard, Reference, Per Sales Order, or As Required.
Ref Des The reference designator ID is used on printed circuit boards to indicate the location of where an electronic component is to be inserted. Reference designators are usually values like R1, R2, R7 or C1, C5 (that is, 'R' stands for resistor and 'C' for capacitor).
Variant/Option

The decoupled variant and option effectivity expression defined for the logical feature.

You can edit the effectivity until the parent logical feature reaches the Released state. See Building or Editing an Effectivity Expression.

Note: This column can only have a value when effectivity has been decoupled.
Effectivity

The coupled effectivity expression defined for the logical feature.

Note: This column can only have a value when effectivity has not been decoupled.

Actions Menu/Toolbar Commands

You can add parts to the GBOM Part Table that have any combination of variant and variant values or option group and options, even if associated configuration rules make the combination incompatible. Compatibility rules are evaluated only when creating or editing product configurations and not when defining inclusion rules.

Action Description For More Information
Create Part Family Creates a new part family. You can associate one part family for each feature. Creating a Part Family
Add Existing Add Existing Part Family Adds an existing part family. The Search page opens. You can add one part family for each feature. About Searches
Add Existing Part Adds an existing part to the list. The Search page opens. About Searches
Add Design Variant
Make Inactive Makes the selected parts inactive. Click OK to confirm.

The parts are moved to the Inactive Parts table and are not available for any new product configuration or BOM generation process. The effectivity of a part determines the availability of the part for future product configurations and BOM generation processes. A part that is referred to by multiple product configurations or effectivity expressions cannot be removed, but you can change its status to inactive for a specific product configuration. The active or inactive status of a part does not impact current product configurations. Inactive parts can be made active again.

-
Update Option Values Updates the design conditions for a selected part using the effectivity. Global context structure effectivity is defined on the part, and the effectivity condition contains user-selected variant values and options to create a product configuration. The Search page opens where you can search for a product configuration. About Searches
Replace Searches for and replaces a part with an equivalent for logical features in any state before the Released state. The new part retains the design conditions and effectivity of the original part. The original part is moved to the Inactive Parts table.

Select the needed part, then click Submit.

If the Update Released Feature property is enabled, System Engineers can use an Engineering Change (EC) in the Active state to replace parts for logical features in the Released state. If this property is not enabled, the Replace command is disabled for features in the Released state. The command is always disabled for features in the obsolete state.

Replacing GBOM Items
Remove Removes the selected parts from the list. Click OK to confirm. If the context item is used in a product configuration, then this is the same as using the Make Inactive command.

You cannot remove parts from the list in edit mode.
