Creating a Variant Value

Users with the Product Manager, System Engineer, or Leader role can create a variant value for a variant. The variant must already exist.

  1. To create a variant value, do one of the following:
    • From the list of all variants:
      1. Select the variant that this will be a value for.
      2. From the page toolbar, click Create Variant Value .
    • Within the context of a variant:
      1. Open the variant.
      2. In the navigation pane, click Variant Values.
      3. Select the variant.
      4. From the page toolbar, click Create Variant Value .
  2. Enter these details:

    Field Name Description
    Name Enter a name or select AutoName to have the system generate a name for you.
    Type The default value is Variant Value. If your Business Administrator has created custom types, enter the new object type or click to select one.
    Description Enter a description for the new variant value.
    Display Name The default text is the same name that was entered in the Name field. If you selected AutoName, you must enter a display name.
    Display Text Enter any text to be used for display purposes in the product configuration.
    Owner Your user name is automatically entered. Click to select a different owner.
    Design Responsibility By default, the design responsibility is the context organization for the variant. Click to assign the responsibility for designing the variant value to another organization.
    Collaborative Space Select the collaborative space in which to create the variant value.
    Policy By default, variant values are created using the Configuration Option policy.

  3. Click Apply to create the variant value and continue creating more variant values, or click OK if you are finished creating variant values.

If you create a variant value for a variant that was created under a specific model version, the variant value is automatically allocated to the evolution effectivity of that model version. If you create a variant value for a variant that was not created under a specific model version, the variant value is not allocated.
