About Fault Trees

A fault tree describes the possible scenarios leading to a failure condition (top event). Its purpose is to identify the cutsets and compute quantitative metrics, such as, the probability for this failure to happen.

Fault Tree

A fault tree can be seen as a graphical representation of a Boolean formula.

A fault tree is created with elements that are references, with their own maturity and revision.

Fault Tree Element

A fault tree element represents a failure mode of a list of failure modes (a fallible reference). It is the base element of a fault tree.

A fault tree element can be a basic event or a tree composed of several instances from other fault tree elements. For more information, see Events.

A fault tree element supports all the features of a PLM reference including its versioning, ownership, and lifecycle.



Display

In the work area, a fault tree is not entirely visible. You can only see a fault tree element and you can navigate between fault tree elements composing a fault tree.
