About Volume Reports

The volume report provides information about a cut volume, a cut and fill volume for a specific zone of interest between polyhedral surfaces or large terrains, or between both. You can also export detailed information based on block model attributes.

You can create a volume information report for a series of surfaces, and export it to a csv file.

Content of the Earth Volume Report

The report provides a detailed summary of the volume calculation results. Preparing the report content involves determining the volumes of interest to calculate (input surfaces), specifying the volume calculation options (cut, fill, or both) and optionally block model attributes information.

The report includes the following information:

  • List of input surfaces between which the volume is calculated:
    • Number of triangles and vertices for each input surface
    • Input surfaces (that can be terrains or polyhedral geometries, or both)
  • Block model information (optional - if a block model was selected)
  • Zone of interest (optional - if a block model is selected)
  • Volume calculation results (cut, fill, or both)

A typical report can provide the following information organized in columns in a table:

Geometric Input Data Volume Information Results
  • Number of vertices for input surfaces (a line per representation instance)
  • Number of triangles
Series of surfaces values accounted for the volume calculation:
  • Surface 1 against surface 2
  • Surface 1 against surface 2
  • Surface 3 against surface 2
Total Summary:
  • Total number of points
  • Total number of triangles
For each pair of surfaces or terrains; a couple of 3D shapes:
  • Total cut volume
  • Total fill volume (optional, if selected at the creation of the report)
  • rock category (optional, if block models are selected)
List of surfaces or terrains, and block models if any:
  • Surface area per representation instance
  • Total of blocks within the block models (optional)
Block attributes values:
  • Cut volume (removal of material)
  • Fill volume (addition of material)
  • Rock category
  • Ore concentration by attribute (for example gold, silver, lead)

Units in the Earth Volume Report

The units used in volume reports are specified as follows:

  • Earth volumes: m^3
  • Surface area: mm^2
  • Closed surface volume: mm^3

Location of the Report

The report and the directory containing support files are saved on the local drive at the specified location.

By default, the report directory is created in the AppData directory.
