Creating a Geoscience Filter

Geoscience Filter lets you create a filtering specification feature in a permanent geoscience filter you can reuse again.

You can create mutliple geoscience filters under a 3D shape.

  1. Open a product that contains surfaces and a block model representation.
  2. Specify the working context by double-clicking the 3D shape under the product in the tree.
The UI-activated object (3D shape) appears highlighted in blue. You can now work in the context of the 3d shape.
  3. From the Earth Model section of the action bar, click Geoscience Filter .
A Geoscience Filter Set node appears in the tree and a Geoscience Filter is created underneath.
  4. From the Database for Attribute Selection options, select one of the following:
    OptionDescription
Create Filter Set Creates a new filter set.
Select Filter Set Enables you to select an existing geoscience filter set in the tree.
  5. In the Database for Attribute selection section, from the list options, select one of the following:
    OptionDescription
Semantic Dictionary Includes the attributes described in the semantic dictionary table in Data Setup.
Block Model Includes the list of attributes of the block model representation open in session.

By default, this option is selected.

  6. If you select the Block Model option, in the tree or in the work area, select a block model representation.
The Define Filter section becomes available.
  7. From the Define Filter options, select one of the following:
    OptionDescription
Attributes Lists all the attributes of the selected block model excluding the coordinates of the centroids.
Surface / Solid Selects polyhedral surfaces and terrains within the model.

By default, this option is selected.

Important: If there are multiple geometries under the 3D shape, only the first geometry is considered; therefore, make sure you have only a single geometry under the 3D shape.
XYZ constraint Includes centroid_x, centroid_y and centroid_z attribute values for the selection.
  8. Create your query filter using the available attributes and surfaces.
  9. When the filtering expression is well-defined within the table, click OK.
The geoscience filter set appears under the geoscience filter node in the tree.

  10. Adjust your filter expression as required.
  11. Close the Geoscience Filter dialog box and save your product.
