Geoscience Attributes and Methodologies

Understanding both Geoscience attributes and methodologies is important so that the import mapping file can be successfully created. Geoscience attributes and methodologies are used to describe the geoscience survey data, and allow the data to be linked or cross-referenced in downstream processes.

This page discusses:

Geoscience Attribute

A geoscience attribute is a piece of geoscience data that is measured or interpreted, and used in downstream processes. Attributes contain the actual values of borehole data. Each piece of data is associated with a defined attribute allowing Geoscience Interpretation to interpret and display the borehole data.

Methodology

A methodology is a measurement or interpretation of some geoscience attributes stored in the context of a borehole. Methodologies are used to differentiate between seemingly identical data. An instance of a methodology can be referenced by data from many boreholes. Borehole data needs to be mapped to a defined methodology so the Geoscience Interpretation can interpret and display the borehole data.
