About Simulation Licensing Schemes

The licensing scheme determines whether you run simulations using credits, tokens, or an embedded system that does not require credits or tokens.

In addition, your licensing choices determine the type of credits or tokens you use to run simulations. You can choose a unified licensing model with a common pool of SimUnit credits and tokens that are available for the entire portfolio of SIMULIA® 3DEXPERIENCE apps and legacy products. Alternatively, you can also use a "legacy" system of Simulation credits and tokens available before the introduction of the SimUnit model.

When you run a simulation, you can choose between credits, tokens, or embedded licensing.

  • Credits are usually suitable for "burst" usage requirements that vary from day to day.
  • Tokens are usually suitable for consistent simulation usage and dependable pricing.
  • Embedded licensing is suitable for routine light usage. Embedded licensing is available for a subset of roles.

A fourth licensing option, academic licensing, is available for students, educators, and researchers.

License Reduction for Design Improvement Studies

When you run a parametric optimization or shape optimization and use SimUnit credits or tokens for licensing, the app uses an attenuated licensing model to reduce the number of SimUnit tokens or credits required to run the additional design points. As you add design points to the optimization study, the number of tokens or credits required decreases logarithmically.

Note: Studies that vary only geometry use licenses at a constant rate.
