Editing Sensors

The default set of sensors enables you to determine the minimum, maximum, and maximum absolute values for individual result values from a simulation. Sensors track values from field output requests.

Before you begin: Complete the setup validation.
  1. From the tree, right-click any of the default sensors and edit the object definition.
    The Sensor dialog box appears.
  2. Optional: Customize the Sensor name.
  3. Select a Template if you want to use a specific set of variables pertaining to the chosen template.

Any customizations that you make will reset the template to <none>.

  4. Optional: Track values from one or more mesh groups in your model rather than from the whole model by doing the following:
    1. From the Support options, select Groups.
    2. From the dialog box that appears, select one or more mesh groups.
  5. Optional: Track values from one or more named display groups in your model rather than from the whole model by doing the following:
    1. From the Support options, select Named Groups.
    2. From the Selection List, select one or more named display groups.
  6. Select Combine base state for perturbation to combine results from a previous base state step with results from a linear perturbation step.
  7. In the Frame Selector list, specify the steps, frames, and load cases for which the sensor returns data. Select All frames or select a specific frame or frame set in which to measure the output results.

Use the icon to select new frame ranges in the Frame Selector dialog box. You can define a custom frame range with unique combinations of time, mode, or frequency settings. Once created, frame selection features are available in the Frame selector list in the Sensor dialog box. Click to edit the frame selection feature.

Note: Sensors created on existing models may include frequency or buckling steps. Displacement sensor data for these step types is not meaningful and is no longer extracted for new simulations. You can modify the frame selection to exclude these data.

  8. From the Parameters options, select any of the extrema you want to track as part of this sensor. You can select Maximum, Minimum, and Absolute Maximum.
  9. If you want to measure these Knowledgeware parameters for each step or frame rather than all steps or frames collectively, select one of the following:
    • Create parameters for each selected step
    • Create parameters for each selected loadcase/frame
The tree displays the step, frame, and extrema value under the Sensor node. For example, if you create parameters for each selected step, you might see the following:
    Step-1\Frame1\Maximum
    Step-1\Frame2\Maximum

Whereas if you created parameters for each selected frame, you might see this:

    Sensor AC YIELD 1
    Sensor COPEN.1
    Sensor.COPEN.2

  10. Click OK.
    The sensor is modified.
