Exporting Field Data

You can export a customized set of field data to a .csv file for later analysis in programs such as Microsoft Excel.


Before you begin: Complete a simulation and plot the variable and field definition for the data that you want to export.

Feature Manager
  1. Open the Export Field Data dialog box by doing one of the following:
    • Click the plot to show the context toolbar. From the context toolbar, select Export Field Data .
    • Select one or more plots in the Feature Manager. From the context menu, select Export Field Data .
    • In the specification tree, expand Field Plots, and select the plot or plots from which you want to export data. From the context menu, select Export Field Data.

    Note: Although multiselection is available in the Feature Manager, you can export data from one plot at a time only. Multiple plots are listed in the Plot list in the Export Field Data dialog box.

  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Select the Plot and Field Definition options to confirm that the plot is showing the plot from which you want to export data.

    If not, create a new plot using your preferred output variable and field definitions, then reopen the Export Field Data dialog box.

  4. To save the field data as a PLM document, do the following:
    1. From the Target field, select PLM document.
    2. Optional: Enter a descriptive name for the document in the Document field that appears.
  5. To save the field data as a file on your computer or to a location on your network, do the following:
    1. From the Target field, select File on disk.
    2. Specify the file name and location in the File field that appears.
  6. Optional: Select Deformed to export field data for the deformed element values.
  7. Optional: Select Export Exterior Values Only to export field data for elements on the model surface only.
  8. Optional: Select Exclude entities with no values to omits entities without values for the selected output variable from the exported field data.
  9. Click OK.

The exported plot opens in your default text file program and becomes available for selection in the Tabular Field Exports sections of the tree and the Feature Manager.
