Performing Trade Off Studies

You can perform a trade-off study to compare objects and select the best design.

Before you begin: Create a simulation object.
  1. From the Design Study section of the action bar, click Trade Off Study .
  2. Click one of the following:
    OptionDescription

Adds an object to the container.

Selects an object as a variant.

    Deletes a variant.

    Duplicates a variant.

    Opens a variant.

    Searches for the selected variants.

    Computes clashes between two variants.

    Updates values.

Exports KPIs in a text file.

    Exports KPIs in html format.
Unifies the boundaries and the deformation.
  3. To load the simulation, click Add current root object into a new variant container .
  4. To search for a variant:
    1. Click Choose an object to add as variant and then click Multiselection.
    2. Click to make the variant visible.
    3. Optional: Click to define the variant as the reference variant.
    4. Click Preview selected variant .
Information about the design variants appears to help you choose the best trade off.
Note: With a reference variant, the KPI value is replaced by a percentage and the color coding indicates whether the value is better or worse according to the reference objective.
    • For a maximized objective, the value is green if it is higher than the reference objective.
    • For a minimized objective, the value is green if it is smaller than the reference objective.
    • For a targeted objective, the value is green if it is nearer to the target than the reference objective; if not, the value is red.
    • For a threshold objective, the value is green if it is inside the range; the value not it is red.

A dark green value indicates the best value and a dark red value indicates the worst value.
