Creating a Manufacturing Shape Control

You can create a shape control that specifies whether the optimized shape can be created using standard manufacturing techniques.

Before you begin: Open the Shape Optimization assistant.

  1. From the Optimization section, click Optimization constraints and select Manufacturing control.
  2. From the New list, select Casting.
  3. Define the following parameters:
    • Select Single draw, and use the Z-axis of the Robot to specify the pull direction.

It lets you create a shape that can be cast where the single mold is removed in a specified pull direction. The central plane, that is the plane at which two halves of a mold meet, lies outside the design space and is perpendicular to the pull direction. The optimization adds or removes material only in the pull direction.

    • Select Split draw, and select the central plane specifying the parting surface between two halves of a mold.

It lets you create a shape that can be cast where two halves of a mold are released from the selected central plane in both pull directions. The pull directions are opposite and normal to the central plane. The optimization adds or removes material only in the pull directions.
