Creating a Manufacturing Shape Control

You can create a shape control that specifies whether the optimized shape can be created using standard manufacturing techniques.

Before you begin: Open the Topology Optimization assistant. See Performing an Optimization Using the Topology Optimization Assistant.

  1. From the Optimization section, click Optimization constraints and select Manufacturing control.
  2. From the New list, select one of the following manufacturing shape controls:
    OptionDescription
    Casting
    • Select Single draw and use the Z-axis of the Robot to specify the pull direction.
    • Select Split draw and select the central plane specifying the parting surface between two halves of a mold.
    • Select Auto draw. The middle plane is automatically computed to specify the pull direction.
    Milling Select planes or lines to define the milling direction (normal to the plane or along the lines).
    Extrusion Define extrusion directions to ensure a simple extruded geometry.
    Overhang Define the maximum overhang angle and the base plane.
