Generating Dimensions in One Shot

You can generate dimensions in one shot from the constraints of a 3D part.


Before you begin: Open a generative drawing representation. Go to Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Mechanical Systems > Drafting > Generation tab, and select the Analysis after generation check box.

About Dimension Generation
  1. From the configured section of the action bar, click Generate Dimensions .

    This command is not available by default. To add it to the action bar, select Me > Preferences > Customize > Commands, and drag and drop the command onto a section.

    The dimensions are automatically generated on the front view, which in this particular case, is the only view in the drawing.

    Important: In the case of drawings with several views, by default, dimensions are generated on all the views. To generate dimensions on specific views, simply select these views prior to generating dimensions. The selected views will be automatically highlighted, and dimensions will be generated on the selected views only.

    The image below shows the 3D part displaying the dimension corresponding to the dimension selected on the drawing view:



    The Generated Dimension Analysis dialog box showing the dimensions and constraints generated for each part (in this case, there is only one) is automatically displayed. For more information, see Analyzing Generated Dimensions.

  2. Click OK.
