Creating Silhouettes

Silhouette lets you create silhouettes (3D wires). In one shot, it computes reflect lines, extracts edges that define the contour, and removes non-visible areas of the contour.

Before you begin: Create a 3D shape.
  1. Select Cylindrical Type .
  2. In the Elements box, select one or more surfaces.
  3. Right-click the Direction box and select a line, a plane, or x, y, z vector components.
  4. Optional: In the Projection plane box, select a planar element onto which the silhouettes are projected.

The silhouettes of all selected elements are projected in the defined direction.

  5. Select Curve to create a silhouette curve.

Note: The Result options are only available if a Projection plane is selected.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Edit the Silhouette.x feature in the tree and select Surface to create a silhouette surface.
  8. Edit the Silhouette.x feature in the tree and select Conical Type .
  9. In the Origin box, select a point.
  10. Optional: To keep certain silhouettes, select Result filters filters.
  11. Click OK.

Note: 3D silhouettes are not necessarily closed.
