Creating Constraints

You can set geometric constraints either on a single element or between several elements. Such a constraint forces a limitation. For instance, a geometric constraint might require that two lines be parallel.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Create a 3D shape containing one or more geometric elements (curves, surfaces, etc.).

Set a constraint on a Single Element

You can set geometric constraints on a single element.

  1. Select the element to be constrained.
  2. From the Transform section of the action bar, click Constraint .
    The corresponding constraint symbol appears on the geometry.

Set a Constraint Between Elements

You can set geometric constraints between several elements.

  1. Multi-select two or three elements to be constrained.
  2. Click Constraint Defined in Dialog Box .
  3. Select one of the available options to specify that the corresponding constraint is to be made.
  4. Click OK.
    The corresponding constraint symbol appears on the geometry.
