Managing Multi-Result Operations

You can manage the result of an operation in case of a non connected result.

Note: The Multi-Result Management dialog box only appears after clicking OK in a command that gave a non-connected result.

Keep all Sub-Elements

You can manage to keep all the sub-elements by selecting the keep all the sub-elements option.

A surface and a spline lying on this surface are created. A parallel curve of the spline is to be created.



  1. Click Parallel Curve .
    The Parallel Curve Definition dialog box appears.
  2. In the Curve box, select a spline.
  3. In the Support box, select the surface.
  4. Click OK.


    The Multi-Result Management dialog box appears.
  5. Select the keep all the sub-elements option to keep a non-connected result.
  6. Click OK.
    The curve (identified as Parallel.xxx) is added to the tree.

Keep one Sub-Element Using the Near Command

You can keep any one sub-element using the Near/Far command.

The behavior is different whether the multi-result feature has no or several children.

Keep one sub-element when the multi-result feature has no children

You can keep any one sub-element when the multi-result has no children. A cylinder is created. Reflect lines on this cylinder are to be created.

  1. Click Reflect Lines .
    The Reflect Line Definition dialog box appears.
  2. In the Support box, select the cylinder.
  3. In the Direction box, select a direction.
  4. In the Angle box, define the angle value.

    Here, we entered the angle value as 50deg.

  5. Click OK.


    The Multi-Result Management dialog box appears.
  6. Select the keep only one sub-element using a Near/Far option to create a nearest entity of the multiple element, that is the reflect lines.
  7. Click OK.
    The Near Definition dialog box appears and the reflect line is automatically filled in the Multiple Element box.
  8. Select a plane as the Reference Element.
  9. Click OK.
    The line (identified as Reflect Line.xxx) and the nearest element (identified as Near.xxx) are added to the tree. The reflect line is put in no show (providing you are in a geometrical set environment).

Keep one sub-element when the multi-result feature has several children

You can keep any one sub-element when the multi-result feature has several children.

  1. Double-click the fillet in the tree.
    The Fillet Definition dialog box appears.
  2. Modify the radius value: set it to 15mm.
  3. Click OK.


    The Multi-Result Management dialog box appears. The multi-result feature contains a near (Near.1) that is displayed in the Extracts and Nears tab.

  4. Double-click Near.1.
    The Near Definition dialog box appears and the fillet is automatically filled in the Multiple Element box.
  5. In the Reference Element box, select a point.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click OK in the Multi-Result Management dialog box.
    The Offset element, that uses the Near element as the surface to be offset, is modified accordingly.



Keep one Sub-Element Using the Extract Command

You can keep any one sub-element using the Extract command.

The behavior is different whether the multi-result feature has no or several children.

Keep one sub-element when the multi-result feature has no children

You can keep any one sub-element when the multi-result has no children.

Two sketches are created. A combine curve is to be created between them.



  1. Click Combine .
    The Combine Definition dialog box appears.
  2. Select the Normal type.
  3. Successively select the two curves to be combined.
  4. Clear the Nearest solution option.
  5. Click OK.


    The Multi-Result Management dialog box appears.

  6. Select the keep only one sub-element using an Extract option to create an extract of the multiple element, that is the combine curves.
  7. Click OK.
    The Extract Definition dialog box appears.
  8. Select one of the combine curves in the 3D geometry as the Element to extract.
    The selected element is highlighted.
  9. Click OK.
    The curve (identified as Combine.xxx) and the extracted element (identified as Extract.xxx) are added to the tree. The combine curve is put in no show.



Keep one sub-element when the multi-result feature has several children

You can keep any one sub-element when the multi-result feature has several children.

  1. Double-click the intersection feature.
    The Intersection Definition dialog box appears.
  2. Click OK.
    The Multi-Result Management dialog box appears. The multi-result feature contains an extract that is displayed in the Extracts and Nears tab.
  3. Double-click the extract element.
    The Extract Definition dialog box appears.
  4. Select another vertex as the Element to extract, as shown besides.
  5. Click OK.


  6. Click OK in the Multi-Result Management dialog box.
    The line, that uses the Extract element as the point, is modified accordingly.



Use Pointing Element and Select a Sub-Element to Keep

You can select a pointing element to specify the sub-element to be kept.

You can either use the Near or Extract capabilities.

Use Pointing Element with a Near

You can select any element nearest to the sub-element you want to keep.

  1. Double-click the intersection feature.
    The Intersection Definition dialog box appears.
  2. Replace the line by the spline as the Second element by selecting it in the 3D geometry.
  3. Click OK.


    The Multi-Result Management dialog box appears.

  4. Double-click the line to modify its specifications.
    The Line Definition dialog box appears.
  5. Replace the intersection feature by the point as the Point.
  6. Click OK.
    In the Multi-Result Management dialog box, there is no pointing element any more.
  7. Select the keep only one sub-element using a Near/Far option to create a nearest entity of the multiple element, that is Intersect.1.
  8. Click OK.
    The Near Definition dialog box appears and the intersect element is automatically filled in the Multiple Element box.
  9. In the Reference Element box, select the axis system.
  10. Click OK.
    The nearest element (identified as Near.xxx) is added to the tree before the line and is set as current.

    The line, that now uses Point.1, is modified accordingly.

Use Pointing Element with an Extract

You can extract the sub-element you want to keep.

  1. Double-click the combine element.
    The Combine Definition dialog box appears.
  2. Click OK.


    The Multi-Result Management dialog box appears.

  3. Select the keep only one sub-element using an Extract option to create an extract of the multiple element, that is the combine curves.
  4. Click OK.
    The Extract Definition dialog box appears.
  5. Select one of the combine curves in the 3D geometry as the Element to extract.
    The selected element is highlighted.
  6. Click OK.
    The extracted element (identified as Extract.xxx) is added to the tree.

Important: If you modify a feature that was connected (without editing it) so that it becomes non-connected, the Multi-Result Management dialog box does not appear.
Tips:
  • Several multi-result features can be contained within a multi-output.
  • The options set in the Multi-Result Management dialog box are retained when exiting then returning to the function.
