Displaying Parents and Children

The Parent and Children command enables you to view the genealogical relationships between the different components of a part.

It also shows links to external references and explicitly provides the name of the documents containing these references.

If the tree already lets you see the operations you performed and re-specify your design, the graph displayed by Parent and Children proves to be a more accurate analysis tool. We recommend the use of this command before deleting any feature.

About Displaying Parents and Children
  1. Select the feature of interest, that is Pad1.

  2. Right-click the object in the tree and select Parent/Children... . A window appears containing a graph. This graph shows the relationships between different elements and the pad previously selected.
Tips: The Reframe Graph and Print Whole contextual commands let you improve the visibility of your graph.
  3. Right-click Pad 1 and select Show All Children.
You can now see that Sketch 2 and Sketch 3 have been used to create two additional pads. A measure analysis was performed on an edge.
Tip: If you cannot see the element of interest in the tree because you have created a large number of elements, right-click this element in the graph then select Center graph : the element will be more visible in the tree. Likewise, the Hide/Show contextual command lets you control the visibility of the geometry within the work area.
  4. Now, select EdgeFillet1 in the graph.

Notice that the app highlights the fillet in the tree, in the graph and in the work area.

  5. Position the cursor on EdgeFillet1 and select the Show Parents and Children contextual command.

EdgeFillet1 has no children. Only its parent 'Pad.1' is displayed.

    Tips:
    • Double-clicking on the components alternately shows or hides parents and children.
    • The Edit contextual command can be accessed from any element. For example, right-click EdgeFillet.1 and select Edit. The Edge Fillet dialog box appears. You can then modify the fillet. When done, the Edge Fillet dialog box closes as well as the Parents and Children window close and the fillet is updated.
  6. Click OK when your operation is done.
