About Multi-Instantiation

The multi-instantiation mechanism lets you quickly instantiate an existing assembly component recursively.

The multi-instantiation is always run from an existing component in an assembly.

You can specify various parameters prior to running the multi instantiation that can be either of the following:

  • The number of instances and the spacing between these instances.
  • The number of instances and the maximum length between the original and the last instances (the spacing between instances is automatically computed).
  • The spacing between instances and the maximum length between the original and the last instances (the number of instances is automatically computed).
Important: The original instance is not taken into account in the specified number of instances.

These parameters can be defined in the Multi-Instantiation dialog box that appears when you click Linear Multi-Instantiation .

By default, the parameters that are specified in the Multi-Instantiation dialog box are kept when you click OK, except when you clear the Define As Default check box.

You can specify a reference direction to create new instances by choosing one main direction of the root product, by selecting a linear element in the assembly, or by defining a vector.

Important:

If the component to instantiate contains at least an assembly feature with impacts, you can either:

  • Copy all impacts regardless of their action perimeter or
  • Copy impacts that affect the involved representations only.
